Presented for sale is a handsome late 19th to early 20th century oil on canvas depicting the English hunting steed "Joker" painted by British artist, Henry Frederick Lucas Lucas. The painting depicts the horse stabled with his bridle and saddle dressed for an equestrian event.
Henry Frederick Lucas Lucas (1848 - 1943) was a prolific 19th and 20th century artist who specialized in painting horses and dogs. He was a favorite of hunt clubs who often asked the artist to render images of their patron's mounts. We have had several of his paintings and are always in search of others.
The painting is in excellent condition with a minor 1/4" sized nick to the paint and 3/4" long scratch toward the bottom. The painting is signed and dated in the lower right hand corner and inscribed and titled on the reverse.
