Offered for sale is a delightful pair of late 19th century Volkstedt porcelain figural candlesticks featuring children gathering flowers and wheat sheaves. They are perched on a flower-encrusted column mounted on a rococo footed base.
The Volkstedt porcelain manufactory in Rudolstadt, Thuringia, Germany was the earliest producer of porcelain in Thuringia. It began making true hard-paste porcelain in the late 18th century and gained a reputation for its finely painted and beautifully molded figures.
The candlesticks are in very good age-related condition, there are a few minute chips found on the flowers, but the enamel colors are still rich and vibrant and the molding of the figures outstanding.
Size: 12 ½" Height.
