Offered for sale is a mid 19th century French floral encrusted hard paste porcelain vase heavily encrusted with flowers and vine handles made by Jacob Petit (1796 – 1868). The front and back of the vase features a trumpet shaped body, the top and base bordered in reticulated grape vines, which connect to form meandering side handles. The center panels are decorated in gilded scrolls flanked by side panels laden with encrusted flowers and grapes hand painted in Petit's signature shades of pinks, blues, and yellows. The vase epitomizes the Rococo form and the decorative style for which Petit is known.
The vase is in very good age-appropriate condition. There is a tight hairline near the top of the center panel above which there is evidence of some restoration to a small section of the vine border at the top. There are also a few flea-bites to the tips of some flowers that have been professionally restored. This is a magnificent display piece of porcelain, very heavy and dense with outstanding decorative touches.
Size: 11" Height by 10" Width.
