Presented for sale is an exceptional pair of early 19th century Louis XV painted beechwood Bergères. Each chair has a foliate carved barrel back, the arms with padded rests, and a squab seat cushion. The chairs are raised on cabriole legs terminating in toupie feet. They are of an ample size and quite comfortable.
The chairs have been recently covered (within the last 50 years) with a lush cut velvet on silk. The color combination of a dark raspberry background with cut velvet olive green foliage looks exquisite with the celery green and gilt painted finish. The upholstery is still in excellent condition and of a very high quality. The chairs are structurally sound with some evidence of past insect infestation to one of the chairs, which is no longer active and does not affect the stability. The painted finish is old with a lovely patina that has had minor touch ups. This is an exceptional pair of chairs for the connoisseur of fine French furniture.
