Offered for sale is a late 19th century French Louis XV style semainier mounted in ormolu with a marble top. The semainier is constructed of Kingwood with Tulipwood floral marquetry on an oak base. The seven drawers, one for each day of the week, have locking escutcheons and delicate pulls.
Slender and tall, these elegant pieces of furniture were used in France in the 18th and 19th century to hold seven days' worth of clothes, from the French "semaine", or "week". They usually were enhanced with ormolu mounts, marquetry inlays, and were surmounted with marble.
The semainier is topped with marble and raised on cabriole legs. It is in excellent age appropriate condition with minor veneer restorations.
Size: 54 ½" Height by 27" Width by 16" Depth.
