Presented for sale is an ornate late 19th to early 20th century Venetian cushion mirror with sumptuously curved hand-cut, beveled, and etched glass work.
Since the 12th century the famous glass makers of Venice have produced their superb blown glass on the Island of Murano with each glass house closely guarding their well-kept secrets. Many pieces have been made over and over for several centuries with little change to the technique or style. The older Venetian mirrors have become highly collectible, and the little discrepancies and losses caused by age, just add to their desirable patina.
This mirror has had some previous restorations and is missing some of the ornate floral petals that adorn the mirror closer to the bottom, however, overall the effect is still very pleasing. There are age spots on the glass, which add to the essence of the mirror's patina. There are also some age cracks to the molded glass banding found along the edging.
Size: 52" Height by 31" Width.
