Offered for sale is an oil on board depicting a beach with waves crashing by Pennsylvania artist, Walter Emerson Baum (1884 – 1956). The painting is inscribed on the back, dated, and titled. It depicts a beach at Barnegat Bay, along the peninsula or the Jersey shore.
Walter Emerson Baum is one of the better known contemporary Pennsylvania impressionist artists. He was born in Buck County Pennsylvania and supported his family by taking a number of jobs including newspaper columnist and illustrator, salesman, photographer, and art teacher. Throughout his life, his art won many prestigious awards, and his pieces can be found in major museum collections. He was an influence to many young struggling artists and helped to establish the Baum School of Art and The Allentown Art Museum.
The painting is in excellent condition accompanied by pictures of the signature and title on the back of the board before framing. The rear of the painting also shows evidence of being used to mix colors. The painting has been remounted in a custom made frame.
