Presented for sale is a stunning Italian majolica Lusterware charger, circa 1900, inscribed Rubboli Gualdo Tadino painted with a scene from Roman history. The border issued with stylized dragons and griffins enriched in ruby and buff lustre glazes.

In the 1870's Paolo Rubboli rediscovered the secret of creating the beautiful Italian lustre glazes, which had been a specialty of the ceramicists in Gubbio, Italy during the Renaissance period. He along with his wife Daria, also a talented artist, established their new pottery. Paolo passed away in 1890 but his sons continued to make lusterwares into the 20th century.

Rubboli Lusterware continues to command increasingly high prices and has been the subject of many important exhibitions and collections.

The charger is in excellent condition, magnificent for display on a wall or shelf.
