Presented for sale is a magnificent Royal Vienna style center bowl, circa late 19th century. The large ovular shaped bowl is topped with a reticulated crowned rim; the dark green ground presents a striking contrast to the hand-painted processional court figures. The bowl is mounted with double devil-face handles and is richly highlighted in gilt; raised on a valanced base.
The painting is signed by the artist, Seler, possibly Carl Seler (1846-1921.) This is a rare piece styled after wares produced by the Imperial and Royal Porcelain Factory Vienna, aka Royal Vienna for short (1718 – 1844.) The workmanship and painting is of exemplary quality and the large size perfect to showcase on a sideboard or the center of a table.
The bowl is in excellent condition with the following exceptions noted: there are two small restorations to sliver chips along the valanced foot of the bowl, each about 1/2 inch in length; there is an almost imperceptible amount of gilt wear but overall the original gilt is intact.
Size: 7" Height by 18" Length by 10" Depth (approximately).
