Offered for sale is a lovely early 19th century Blue & White transferware platter made by William Adams & Sons. The scene is one of 14 from the Columbus Series based on events in the discoverer's career, produced around 1830. The border offers vignettes of game alternating with floral bouquets a very pleasant pattern. The platter has a scalloped edge.

William Adams, son and first partner of his father William Adams had an interest in American trade and historical scenes from the States. He traveled to America in 1821 and 1825 where he secured prints from several artists to later transfer to his china. Around 1834, he built the new Greenfield pottery in Turnstall and began producing wares there. The Columbus series was one of his most popular accomplishments.

The platter is in very good condition with a few "mud" spots to the front from the original firing.

Size: 19 ¼” Length by 16” Width.
