Offered for sale is a stunning late 19th century Vernis Martin style demilune cabinet attributed to the workshops of R. J. Horner. The cabinet is fitted with a single locking door flanked on each side by open demilune shelves over a single drawer raised on toupee feet. The cabinet is decorated in the 18th century French style of the Martin Brothers known as Vernis Martin. The door is decorated with a hand painted pastoral courting scene glazed in a dark gilded varnish; the back panels of the shelves painted in florals.
The cabinet is in very good condition with fine crazing, typical for this finish, to the surface and minor loss of paint commensurate with age. This piece would be perfect for a narrow hallway or entrance.
