Presented for sale is an outstanding and rare Celadon slip decorated center bowl, date mark 1872 and made in England by the Minton factory. The bowl features a basket with a cut out diamond-shaped edge and rope twisted handles tied with a slip decorated ribbon and bow.
The bowl is hoisted by three large Putti which are mounted on a tripartite platform. The beveled edge showing the slip decoration in very good detail. This modeling is typical of the designs of well-known artist Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse [or Carrier de Belleuse] (1824-1887) a French sculptor who worked at Minton during this time period.
The celadon ground color with white slip decoration was one of the first attempts being used at Minton involving the Pate sure Pate process, a time consuming and highly difficult decoration, which only a few truly great artists mastered.
This piece is magnificent from all angles making it perfect for a centerpiece; in excellent condition with minor restoration on the handle.
