Presented for sale is a pair of early 19th century Encoignures, with conforming marble tops. The cabinets contain a single door and open to a single shelf. They are finished with marquetry panels outlined in darker kingwood banding.
Early in 18th century France, it became a practice for Encoignures (corner cabinets) to flank a central commode along a wall. As a rule they were made in pairs and were sometimes surmounted by small graduating shelves or Etagères. Today, it is almost impossible to find the Encoignure with its Etagère.
They are in excellent age appropriate condition with a minute difference in the height and later replaced marble tops.
