We are delighted to offer for sale a stunning pair of French porcelain Jacob Petit stoppered perfume bottles or flacons in the Neo-Rococo manner. The flacons are hand painted with florals and showcase a relief border of ornamental shells and acanthus leaves. They are notable for their blend of styles, which was a hallmark of Petit's work.
Jacob Petit (1796 – 1868) was one of the better known decorators of porcelain in 19th century France. He was a self-taught painter who began his career at the Sevres factory and purchased his own small factory after leaving Sevres in 1830. His whimsical creations incorporated a combination of Gothic, Neoclassical, and Chinoiserie characteristics melded together in a Rococo style. Petit's company enjoyed great success, and his memorable creations have remained popular with collectors.
The flacons are in excellent age appropriate condition with restoration to one of the necks and a few tips of the scrolled acanthus leaves. There is also a small amount of gilt wear consistent with age.
Size: 10" Height.
