Presenting a rare first period Dr. Wall Worcester porcelain chestnut basket in the Chinese-style Royal Lily pattern. The basket features a cross-hatch design picked out in blue gilded florets and is decorated in an all-over underglaze cobalt blue lily pattern outlined with a blue banding stepped up in gilding. It has twisted branch handles terminating in flowers.

Dr. Wall, a physician, founded a factory in 1751 with apothecary William Davis at Warmstry House (Worcester, England) on the banks of the River Severn. They developed a unique method for producing porcelain and decorated many of their first wares in underglaze blues and then later in colored enamels. The Dr. Wall period lasted until 1783 when Thomas Flight purchased the factory. The Blue Lily pattern was renamed the Royal Lily pattern after King George III and Queen Charlotte visited the Worcester factory in 1788 and placed a large order for an entire dinner service. It has remained one of Worcester's most endearing patterns.

The basket is in excellent age related condition with a few minute chips to the rim florets.

Size: 3 1/4" Height by 6 3/4" Length by 6 1/8" Width.
