Presented for sale is a charming mid 19th century oil painting on canvas after John Frederick Herring, Jr. (1820 – 1907). The painting depicts the interior of a barn with a couple obviously in the process of caring for their animals. In the foreground one first notices a beautiful white horse that starkly contrasts with the darker colors in the background. From this, one can pick out a collection of farm animals all living in complete harmony with each other giving the viewer a feeling of tranquility.
The painting is in very good stable condition with a small patch on the verso, age related crazing, and a minute amount of scattered in-painting. It is set into a molded frame that beautifully complements the painting.
