Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel Amphora Pottery Bust
We present an incredible piece of pottery sculpture made by the firm of Riessner, Stellmacher, & Kessel in Trnovany, Czech Republic (Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, Austria between 1892-1905. This bust depicts a beautiful 18th century woman dressed in a formal costume. She is dressed in a revealing bustier with a ribbon tied jacket decorated in frilly pierced lace. Her upswept hair is accentuated with a crown topped by a feather.
The bust is stamp signed on the base and impressed indistinctly on the back of her costume. The colors and iridescent glazes are typical of the fantastically sculpted pieces that were produced by this factory during their heyday, no two pieces were ever exactly alike.
These female busts are among some of our favorites, incredibly painted and sculpted; we consider them to be unparalleled pieces of art. The firm of Riessner, Stellmacher, & Kessel only existed for a short period during a magical window when these three talented artists worked together. This is one of the finest examples that we've been privileged to find. The bust is in excellent condition, these pieces always have a slight roughness to the edges of their costumes; we don't consider this damage, just typical of this maker.
Size: 19" Height x 15" Width.
