1780 New England Walnut Tavern Table With Two Drawers
A fine example of a New England late 18th century walnut Tavern Table with turned block legs and stretchers. The once removable top is now stationary and consists of four joined boards. The beveled edge top surmounts a frieze with two drawers, which are supported on handsome vase and ring turned legs, joined by substantial blocked stretchers all standing on bun feet.
One of the top boards has been replaced; at one time there were only three. The Chippendale style brasses are old replacements and the under-mounted brackets no longer exist because of the stationary top. The table is in a fine state of preservation with no other obvious replacements; especially noted for the bun feet, which are usually not original on pieces of this age. The stretchers exhibit the desired amount of wear and it is possible that the top has an old refinish, but shows various marks of usage; however, the patina is very nicely spread over the entire piece.
Size: 28" Height x 37" Width x 32" Depth.
