Presented for sale is a fine pair of late 19th century oversized French Louis XVI armchairs with exquisite hand carved frames. The chairs feature oval padded backs, the frames crested with deeply carved flowers. The rounded seats support curved arms and are raised on tapering fluted legs ending in toupee feet. The carvings are finely chiseled throughout and the finish retains a warm rich patina.
The chairs are in excellent condition, very sturdy and structurally sound. The seat springs have been retied and the seats reupholstered in a stunning cinnamon colored cut velvet (the old upholstery was just too worn to save, however we retained some of the horsehair stuffing.) Besides their obvious beauty, it is noteworthy that they are oversized, ample, and very comfortable for a larger person. They are a rare, masterfully carved matched pair in excellent condition.
