A lovely set of Meissen "Blue Onion" porcelain dessert plates with reticulated borders and gilded highlights. The plates are marked first quality and are in excellent condition.
The "blue onion" pattern of Meissen was developed in the 18th century and was modeled after earlier Chinese wares. The flowers are not really onions but an amalgamation of stylized peonies, asters, and bamboo stalks, the actual "onions" being a mutated misconception of peaches and pomegranates. The Meissen Blue Onion pattern was originally manufactured by Meissen but has become one of the most copied and recognizable patterns in china history.
Size: 8" Diameter.
