Presented for sale is a French 19th century hand painted watercolor portrait of a young woman in a lacy bonnet with flowers tied around her braided hair. She is dressed casually in a wool shawl, pearls adorning her neck. The painting is illegibly signed by the artist.
The painting is purported to be Marie Caroline Bonaparte Murat, younger sister of Napoleon Bonaparte and eventually Queen of Naples.
The figure in the painting is finely executed and in excellent condition, there is discoloration to the background to the left of her sleeve and slight fading in the upper corners, however, the figure is complete. The painting is set into an ormolu frame with velvet matting and suspension ring. The easel stand is present but loose.
