Beautiful late 19th century Chinese Export style porcelain trembleuse with armorial decoration made in Paris by the firm of Edme Samson. The double-handled trembluese features a large cup with cover and a stand with a deep well. The hand painted design is further enhanced with raised enameling and gilded highlights.
Edme Samson better known as the “Great Imitator,” started his porcelain repair and replacement service n Paris in the 1830’s. His firm became known for quality reproductions of famous museum pieces reproduced for clients that desired similar pieces. Samson expertly copied a wide range of pieces including Chinese Export, Meissen, and Derby. His copies were so artistic and exquisite that they have become collectible in their own right.
The Trembleuse is in excellent condition with the exception that the lid has been repaired, it is however fine for display and quite a rare piece as most trembleuses have thus lost their lids due to breakage and are usually not shown with one
