An extraordinary early 20th century Italian Majolica jardiniere and accompanying stand made by Ceramich La Mastro Giorgio. The set is beautifully hand decorated in the Renaissance style with arabesques, graffito, and floras. The shaped jardiniere rests on a tripartite footed base which surmounts a matching pedestal with pierced panels supported on scrolled legs.
This set was produced in the style of Mastro Giorgio Andreoli (1470-1555) who was considered to be the most important potter of the Italian Renaissance. In Gubbio he introduced his famous Majolica luster glazes, examples of which can be found in many prestigious museum collections. The firm, La Mastro Giorgio, is considered the oldest and most famous majolica company in Umbria. Under the direction of the Biagioli family for three hundred years, they have continued to produce high quality ceramic work in the style of the great ceramicist, La Mastro Giorgio
The set is in excellent condition with professional restoration to the stand and the rim of the jardiniere. It is marked on both the top of the stand and the foot of the jardiniere. The artistry is unparalleled with incredible detail to the painting and shape, a very heavy set, a real showstopper for any majolica ceramica collection.
