Colorful and quite rare, a circa 1874 – 1924, English George Jones highly decorative 9 piece ice cream set (one plate not shown in picture.) The set is decorated on a cream background with a raised relief design in a bright blue quilted pattern embossed with cartouches of pink flowers. Both the platter and plates are lobed and rimmed in a gilt banding.
George Jones (& Sons) was a well-known English manufacturer of decorative earthenware and majolica-style ware from 1861 until 1951. The older pieces have become very collectible and demand high prices at auction houses throughout the world.
The ice cream set is in excellent condition with minor age related wear to the gilded edges.
