Presented for sale is an Asian-themed oil painting on board by contemporary artist Samuel Barber, born in Massachusetts in 1943. The painting, a still life, depicts a window framing a vase with flowers. An Oriental fan with a lady's portrait sits by the vase, as well as a small porcelain statue. The strong brushstrokes and thick oils which enhance the mixture of vibrant colors have become a hallmark of this talented artist.
Samuel Barber started out as a portrait painter in Provincetown, MA. He later relocated to Cape Cod where his works are now found in many prestigious art galleries, museums, and private collections. His bright impressionistic paintings fit well into the plein air (straight from life) genre that he has perfected in his later works.
The painting is in excellent condition, signed (faintly) in the lower right hand corner and set into a gilded frame with fluted edging.
NOTE: The photograph of the signature has been contrasted slightly in order to make it more legible for the viewer.
