A magnificent mid 19th century Dutch Linen Press decorated in gilded Red Chinoiserie enamels. The complex cornice features a Rocaille-carved serpentine pediment holding 3 pedestals for display of vases. A pair of wide inset ogee paneled doors open to reveal a fitted interior with linen shelves and drawers. The top surmounts the bombé-shaped lower section, which contains two short drawers over two long drawers.
The linen press is set on blocked feet and displays a valanced skirt. It is in very good age related condition, the elegant red Chinoiserie decoration most impressive, with some appropriate wear, present to add patina. The locks and pulls are not original to the piece and there has been professional structural restoration to the mortise and tenon joinery as well as the frame and runners to re-strengthen the top, interior, and lower sections.
Stunning in design and sinuous in form, this piece makes a definite statement and is not for the faint of heart, but WOW, WHAT AN IMPRESSION !
