A fabulous pair of Chelsea style porcelain bocage figural candlesticks featuring cherubic figures of Pan picking bouquets of flowers from the tree with a hidden heart in his hand. The candlesticks are set upon scrolled rocaille styled bases and feature one bolted candle nozzle.
The candlesticks are hard paste copies made in the 18th century style of Chelsea's gold anchor period. They were produced by the great Paris imitator, Edme Samson, whose pieces have become celebrated and collected in their own right. Samson's 19th century workshop created many copies of 18th century British porcelain as well as Meissen, Sevres, and Chinese Exports.
