Presented for sale is a fanciful Alfred Stellmacher hand painted porcelain dragon jug, circa 1859-97. The jug is decorated in a shaded pink ground with pierced crimped rim and Bacchus head spout. A full figured dragon serves as the handle and the body is hand painted with insects and flowers.
The Alfred Stellmacher Imperial and Royal Porcelain Factory was founded in Trnovany, Czech Republic (Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, Austria) in 1859. They produced decorative porcelain, flowers, table, and household items. Their pieces were often highly sculpted and very whimsical. The company was purchased by Ernst Wahliss in 1894.
The vase is in excellent condition with a fine iridescent glaze present to the spout and handle.
