Offered for sale is a charming oil on canvas painting by Laurits Andersen Ring (1854-1933) depicting two young girls at their spinning wheels set in front of a window. The cozy interior and sweet look on the faces of the young girls gives the viewer a sense of warmth and tranquility.
Laurits Andersen Ring was known for such paintings as the one presented here, as he is considered one of the foremost painters of Danish symbolism and realism. A man of strong political convictions, his work remained an idealistic, true depiction of his humble beginnings. He never strayed far from those simple characterizations in his art and often depicted scenes and people he had known in the simple villages of his youth. He was a friend of Hans Christian Andersen and later became an important fixture in the early 20th century art scene. Most Scandinavian museums will have at least one (if not several) of his pieces. He was born in the village of Ring in the south of Zealand (Denmark's largest island) and adopted the name of his birthplace after 1881. Please also refer to "L.A. Ring, On The Edge of The World," a 267 page comprehensive book detailing his life and work.
