Japanese Edo Period Imari Punch Bowl
Offered for sale is a beautiful ribbed Japanese Imari Punch Bowl from the mid to late Edo period (1688-1868) featuring simple paneled designs in underglaze cobalt and overglaze red enamels highlighted in gilt.
This was a piece obviously made for the affluent European market. In Japan such bowls were used to serve drinks, however European and American collectors used them mainly as decorative objects.
It is in excellent condition with minor enamel wear to be expected.
