Fischer & Mieg Beehive Marked Oyster Plate, (1853-73)
An exquisite Bohemian hand painted oyster plate produced by the firm of Fischer & Mieg (1853-73) with a lobed edge, the wide rim hand painted in Arabic form with the center containing 5 oyster wells and a center dipping well. The wells shade from pink to white and are decorated with an oyster for each well. The plate is marked in the style of the Royal Vienna factory and is in excellent condition with minor to no paint of gilt loss.
The Fischer & Mieg Factory was founded in 1802-03 by Johann Gottlob List and Friedrich Hocke. In 1810 Fischer & Reichenbach became the sole owners and they produced crockery ware with a ribbed hard body. Discovering a source for kaolin in Zettlitz, the factory soon turned to decorative porcelain and quickly became known for their exceptional work. This plate is attributed to the decorator, Joh. Zacharias Quast, whose outstanding artistry and skills won the factory many awards and gold medals.
