Presented for sale is a beautiful pair of mid 19th century Paris Porcelain Figural Compotes made by Gillet & Brianchon depicting a pair of children holding pierced baskets on their heads. The figures are hand painted and glazed with a mother-of-pearl lustre finish.
Gillet & Brianchon founded their studio in 1857 and patented a process for glazing their porcelain with a mother-of-pearl lustre that they called "décor de couleur nacres a base de bismuth." The pieces were decorated in their own studio. The patent for this process also existed in England and when the patent expired in France the technique was adopted by Belleek.
The pieces are in very good condition with restoration to the lattice work on the basket of the girl; there is a slight tilt to the baskets, original to the pieces.
