A fabulous pair of 19th c. porcelain figures of shepherds perched on tree stumps, dressed in peasant costumes with their animals at their sides, and a bocage of flowers framing the back. The figures are set on Rococo bases and were made in the style of Chelsea/Derby, gold anchor period. They were in all probability produced in the late 19th century by Edmé Samson, whose workshop re-created incredible replicas of earlier 18th century pieces from the Chelsea, Sevres, and Meissen factories.
The figures are hand painted in rich earthy colors and are in excellent condition, very heavy substantial pieces with lovely detailed features. There are some minor chips to some of the flower points, but considering their age, this is a small flaw.
Size 9 ¾" Height x 9" Width.
