Presenting for sale is an exceptional late 18th century French neoclassical Directoire marquetry commode of broken rectilinear form surmounted with a marble top. The commode is veneered in floral inlays and marquetry; the vertical filets in tulipwood and violetwood finished in gilt bronze mounts.
The mottled gray Italian marble top surmounts a carcass with a narrow top drawer over two long drawers. It is supported on canted legs capped at the foot. The commode is in excellent age appropriate condition with minor abrasions and restoration to the delicate inlays. The commode epitomizes the elegance of the neoclassical style of the French Directory (1795 -1799).
