Pr. of 19th C. Edme Samson Porcelain Figures In The Style of Chelsea Derby
Presenting a beautiful pair of early 19th century Edme Samson figures in the style of 18th century Chelsea Derby. The figures present a classical couple, probably depicting the seasons, dressed in rich cobalt gilt highlighted shifts. They wear wreaths in their hair, the woman is adorned with an animal skin, the man is draped in a shawl, and both are perched on tree stump reticulated bases.
The faces are superbly expressed and the workmanship throughout is stunning, with deep rich hand painted enamels. Edme Samson was a skilled decorator, often enhancing the pieces he imitated. His work has become highly regarded, often being mistaken for the original pieces he copied.
The figures are in good condition with evidence of professional restoration to the arms, however, they are still wonderful for display, quite heavy and substantial, beautiful pieces of porcelain.
Size: 14 ½” H
