Offered for sale is a mid 20th century George III style breakfront or step-back china cabinet hand-decorated in red Chinoiserie enamels. The top cabinet is fitted with adjustable glass shelves and interior lights. The base is fitted with cabinets containing shelves. All doors can be locked (locks are missing on two bottom doors.)
This piece is superbly constructed and signed by Davidhazy of Davidhazy Furniture Design (1953-1997.) Frank J. Davidhazy was hired to head the design department at Irwin Furniture Company, an upscale Grand Rapids Company specializing in high-end furniture. He eventually left to operate his own company.
Red Chinoiserie pieces are rare and make a stunning bold statement. It is in excellent condition with age appropriate wear to the patina, perfect for display. The breakfront was actually made by Baker Furniture Company and decorated by Davidhazy.
