An exceptional early 20th century Louis XV style Bureau Plat or writing desk mounted in bronze. The desk features a serpentine shaped top inset with three tooled black leather panels, rimmed in a heavily cast bronze border. The frieze contains a single center drawer flanked by drawers on each side. The front is embellished in parquetry; the serpentine sides in floral inlays.
The desk is supported on elegant cabriole legs mounted and lined in bronze, ending in pied de sabots. It is an exceptionally made piece, hand finished, with finely chiseled bronze mounts; most likely made in Spain, France, or Italy. Each of these countries produced 19th and 20th century replicas of earlier 18th century French pieces. The workmanship, along with the materials used, construction, and finishes were far superior to most of the later reproductions made in other countries, and this quality is evident when you examine this desk.
The desk is in near perfect condition with minor signs of age and usage. It is a subtle yet magnificent homage to the incredible style of the Louis XV period.
