Early 19th C. English Oil On Board by Edmund Bristow
Presented for sale is a lovely early 19th century English landscape painted by well known British artist Edmund Bristow (1787 – 1876.) The painting depicts a pastoral setting on a lake. A small child accompanied by her mother plays along the lakeshore with her dog. Boaters are seen in the forefront and in the background is a copse of trees and a castle. This painting is typical of the tranquil settings around Eton and Windsor for which Bristow was known. He had an affinity for animals and often included one or several in his scenes. Known as a spirited and eccentric man, he is said to have been close friends with Sir Edwin Landseer.
The painting is encased in a lovely gilded frame that is in excellent condition after minor professional restoration. The painting is in excellet condition with beautiful colors, and is titled, "On The Yare."
