Offered for sale is a stunning late 19th century Royal Crown Derby potpourri vase with cover in the stunning Sang de Boeuf background resplendently decorated with raised gilt enamels and beading. The vase features brushed gilt scrolled handles with raised fruited garland draped around the neck. The front is decorated with a sensational floral jardinière atop a grand table surrounded in cornucopia framework, the back with a similar frame.
The workmanship on this vase is nothing short of extraordinary even for the talented artists at Royal Crown Derby and surpasses any of the previous work of this kind that we’ve seen. The vase in is very good condition with the following noted. In the past the vase was converted to a lamp and the bottom was drilled and re-patched. There is discoloration to the bottom. The finial on the top, which would have been porcelain has been removed and replaced with a brass finial, not original to the piece. The vase is still stunning as a true showpiece to the elaborate pieces produced by Royal Crown Derby in the latter part of the 19th to early 20th centuries.
