Presenting a fabulous mid 20th century German Meissen Group of a Persian woman riding an elephant attended by a Moor. This group is after an 18th century model executed by J. J. Kandler and P. Reinicke. The woman sits atop the elephant on an cushioned howdah and a large pillow for her back; the elephant is draped with an gilt embroidered blanket. A Moor sits on the elephant’s head as a guide.
This exotic group is easily recognizable as one of Meissen’s most famous figurines, and it is sought after by Meissen collectors the world over. The figurine is in very good condition with restoration to a couple of tassels, one of the lady’s feet, both of her arms, and a point tip on the elephant’s trunk.
Size: 10” Height by 10 ½” Length.
