Offered for sale is an early 19th century English Imari pattern plate with cobalt blue and shaded rust red palettes. The scene features a centered pavilion surrounded by a symbolic border. The plate is superior in its painted detail, the enamels are as vivid and beautiful today as they were 200 years ago.
This plate represents, in our opinion, the best of early English ceramic styles when the potters painted their wares in Chinese and Japanese styles. The colors and gilding are always showy but appear soft against the creamy white background of the soft paste porcelain. We never tire of looking at or collecting those luscious pieces from that era.
The dish is in very good condition with a tight age hairline running across the lower section of the border, and some discoloration in the upper left quadrant. The plate is still superb as a display piece as the hairline is hardly visible.
Size: 8 5/8" Diameter.
