Presented for sale is a rare and important bronze mounted, 1860 - 1870 French, Sevres cobalt blue-ground “jeweled" garniture set consisting of a clock and two matching candelabras. The mantel clock is raised on toupee feet and decorated with hand painted pastoral reserves after Boucher, each signed and framed in bands of gilt with jeweled beading. A classical urn with mask head handles and porcelain reserves mounts the clock and is supported by scrolled acanthus leaves. The round enamel dial is signed Emile Levy and has Roman and Arabic characters, pierced hands, and a center medallion painted with a romantic pastoral reserve.

Emile Levy (1826 -1890) was a French genre and portrait painter who was awarded the Grand Prix de Rome in 1954. The dial is flanked by portrait medallions of Marie Antoinette and Madame Lamballe.

The vasiform candelabras present as urns mounted on socles, raised on toupee feet which support a five branch candelabrum with a center flame finial that can be removed to use as a sixth candle. The candelabras match the clock and are mounted with porcelain Sevres plaques painted in romantic pastorals and also framed in gilt bands with jeweled beading.

The clock movement is stamped for Samuel Marti, a prolific French clock maker known to be working at Le Pays de Montbeliard in Paris from 1860. This particular stamp states that the clockmaker is Samuel Marti while the movement was made by Japy Freres which was known to be in business with Marti during this period.

The set is in very good condition with a visible fissure to one of a candelabra's porcelain plaques, and a few missing jewels. The clock movement is not currently running, however, all parts are present and can be reset by a professional clock restorer upon delivery.

*We recommend that the set be professionally packed and shipped by a third party.
