Presented for sale is a magnificent mid 19th century Paris Porcelain neoclassical hand painted urn mounted in bronze in the Sevres style. The urn is hand painted in vignettes front and back; the front depicts cherubs in a pastoral setting signed by the artist, Collot; the back is painted with musical instruments. The softly colored enamels are enhanced by a blue/green shaded to cream background stepped up with gilding.
The urn is heavily mounted in bronze with lion head handles pierced with knockers, a bronze collar, and a footed Rococo base. It has all the earmarks of a Sevres piece and was most likely a blank decorated in a Paris workshop. Collot was known to have painted for the Sevres factory. The artwork is finely painted and the mounts are very nicely chased.
The urn is in excellent condition with a small ¼” tight hairline extending out from the bronze finial on the cover. The bronze mounts retain an aged patina. The urn is a stunning testament to the artistry of the Sevres style and the Rococo period.
Size: 18” Height.
