Highly collectible and old French plate with Salamander and crown, by Salins (Easter France)
The Salamander is the Symbol of French King Francis 1...
The salamander was initially his father's (Charles d'Angoulême) totem.
The animal was thought to be able to walk through flames ( it is also a firemen symbol) and extinguish them.
It came with a motto: "nutrisco et extinguo"/"I feed and extinguish"
The saying is that François wanted to make an allusion to his libido...
Interestingly, his salamander initially spit water, this was lost over the centuries and replaced by flames.
