Gorgeous silver mounted cloisonne vase, with a distinctly mid century modern look. This vase is Japanese in origin, with very fine silver wire work. The silver wires are as thin as a human hair. Great workmanship on this piece. Subject is the bamboo plant, with three bamboo stalks, and one bamboo shoot. The cloisonne enamels are shaded. The pure white background color is a difficult color to achieve in cloisonne enamels. The top and bottom rims are sterling silver with shakudo coloring. The blackening patina is a chemical process: do not polish this. The enamel has a glossy polished surface. This vase is 7.5 inches high, and sits on a 2.5 inch diameter foot. The condition is perfect. A tiny bit of wear to the rims, because it is silver and soft, but no enamel problems, no lines, no scratches. The bottom rim has an impressed mark, which is a diamond shape with an S. I believe it is a mark to designate sterling silver. The interior has counter enamel for strength, which is a sign of a good quality piece. This is a really pretty and modern design for Japanese cloisonne, and the white ground gives it a vibrancy. The work is very fine and delicate. If you collect cloisonne, this is a beautiful example of the 20th century work.
