Blue Banded Agate Stamp Box or Snuff Box

Antique blue banded agate box on ball feet. A box of this dimension could be a stamp box, snuff box, trinket box or ring box. I am guessing snuff box. It measures 2.25 by 1.25 inches. Height is 1 inch. The metal mounts are steel. There is a continuous hinge on the lid, which is very strong, and holds the box open for display or use, which is what convinces me it is a snuff box. The box sits up on 4 ball feet, also made of banded agate. The lid and the bottom are banded agate. Colors are very beautiful and range from turquoise to navy blue to teal to cobalt blue. Really beautiful in the light. Top and bottom are matched pieces of stone. This piece is in perfect condition. The steel metal has not been cleaned. There is some oxidation due to age, but not much. A gorgeous box for your collection. Made late 19th century, European in origin.
