Wave Crest opal glass dresser box in the Baroque Pattern mold. This jewel box is 5.5 inches across and 3.25 inches high, the medium size version of this particular box. Made between 1895 and 1905, this piece was made by C.F. Monroe Company of Meriden , Connecticut. The blown out mold is 3 dimensional. The decoration is hand painted enamel with little blue forget-me-nots, purple C- scrolls, and white stippling dots. The background paint is soft beige with brown for an antiqued effect. Condition of the glass is perfect. Hinge is perfect, and it does stay balanced when propped open. The only issue is the silk lining, which is missing from the base, and shredded in the top. The art glass is opaline in color, actually milk glass but with some fire to it. This piece is not marked. This example is illustrated on page 90 of the textbook "Wave Crest , The Glass of C.F. Monroe" by Wilfred R. Cohen (1987). A nice piece of American art glass for your collection.
