Antique Victorian silver plated miniature vase with a chicken attached. Marked on the bottom "Derby Silver Co." and "Patent Applied For". This pre-dates 1898 when Derby became part of International Silver Company. This vase is very small, only 3.25 inches. Engraved on the front is "A Hearty Greeting". Victorian figural silver plated novelties were very popular between 1880 and 1900. This piece features a chicken standing on oak leaves, and the details are very crisp. We call this a bud vase, but it is miniature enough to go in a large doll house. If you collect Victorian silver plated novelties such as napkin rings, toothpick holders and such, this would be a nice addition to the collection. If you collect antiques with hens or chickens, this will be right at home. Condition is good, with normal surface wear just from the age of the piece. I believe it will polish up nicely. I do not clean my antiques, I leave that to your discretion. The piece is tarnished but does not show any gray or worn spots at all.
