Brass box with enamel scene on the lid. This enamel is of the greatest quality, with beautiful painting and shading. The box is marked on the bottom with the maker, Lenk, Made in Austria. Box is 3.5 inches square, by 1.5 inches high. Nice size for jewelry or trinkets or keys. It is lined in wood. The box itself is made of brass, with art deco simple fluted design. The hand enameled top is made with great skill. It is an exotic scene, women in white togas, among the palm trees, stucco building, and colorful scenery. The shaded colors are luscious, reminding me of an impressionist oil painting. Good overall condition. A few little minor surface scratches just from normal use, nothing that a coat of wax couldn't handle. I have not polished the brass, because I like to see honest tarnish. You can see spots of oxidation on the brass, from age. Frankly, I enjoy patina. This piece is from Austria, about 90 to 100 years old. I have seen this maker's mark on guilloche enamel objects from 1920's like compacts, boxes, and dresser sets, always great quality.
