Funky psychedelic needlework done by an artist who was a college professor. These were completed around 1970. Lot of 5 pieces , each one unique, of reverse appliqué' technique, made as collars. These are made of felted wool. Each is made of three layers, reverse appliqué stitched by hand, to reveal fantastic psychedelic patterns. There is also embroidery embellished over the top. These were to demonstrate that fabric needlework could be worn as alternative to jewelry. I imagine wearing these on a plain turtleneck or a low cut plain dress. or top. The colors are truly 1970's. These have never been worn. The tan one has a few brown beads missing, but frankly, I would take the beads off. Also the tan one is still basted on the edge, so it needs the outer edge stitched. Other 4 are good. These have been stored untouched since the 1970's. They exhibit a great sense of design and playfulness. Very paisley like.
Reverse applique' is a difficult quilting technique which takes a lot of patience and skill. Selling all 5. If you collect psychedelic or hippie era clothing, these would be a great addition to your wardrobe or collection.
